Sierra
Valley
The Sierra Valley is the gateway to a
beautiful part of California that only few people know. It is almost uniformly
5,000 feet in elevation, is considered the largest alpine valley in the
North America and has a rich history of cattle ranching, dairy farming,
mining, and the timber industry.
It remains today in many respects as it was 100 years ago, with charming
older homes, busy ranches, surrounded by a wonderful forest. The valley,
nearby Sierra County mountains and neighboring Plumas county are ideal
for outdoor recreation. There is golfing, hiking, fishing, wild life viewing,
biking skiing, snowmobiling, and roads that invite motorcycles to challenge
the curves. The major communities are Loyalton, Sierraville, Sattley,
Calpine, Graeagle, Portola, Beckwourth, Blairdon, and Vinton. Property
values are more affordable than the Truckee and Tahoe areas and homes
range from $250,000 to $3,000,000. The Sierra Valley and those communities
associated with the valley are a great place to live and enjoy.
